Isaiah 58:6-12
“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice… to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house?” ~Isaiah 58:6-7
The prophet Isaiah, speaking for God, reminds us that true devotion is not found in outward displays alone. Even as some in the ancient community fasted, wore sackcloth, and humbled themselves, God challenged them and us not to separate religious practice from the needs of those around us. Fasting and humility hold meaning only when joined with acts of justice, compassion, and care for the community.
As we worship, with prayer and thanksgiving, let us lift our hands and hearts in love as we commit to restoring, rebuilding, and renewing within our church and extending it to our neighbors.
