Advocate for Love

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.” John 14: 16 

 An advocate is one who is called to the side of another as a source of help. Jesus calls the Spirit “another” advocate because through his life, death, and resurrection he is the first gift of love from God. The Spirit is then the way that this gift of love is given life in Eastertide, the time after Easter. We often sing of the Spirit that is the wind beneath our wings, giving us the capacity to arise and have a faith that is strong and free, bringing gentleness and creativity to those we encounter and to our movements of love and faith. The Advocate is not only a source of help but completes the circle of love from God the Creator, to Jesus the Redeemer, to the Spirit that is Sustainer. Let us celebrate the Love that creates, redeems and sustains us, bringing us wholeness and abundant life.
