Obituary

Susan Elizabeth Paul passed peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the age of 86, lovingly surrounded by family. Born on February 8, 1939, Susan was the cherished daughter of Leland and Bertha Morse. Throughout her life, Susan was guided by her deep faith and enriched by music, family, and enduring friendships. She was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, where she sang joyfully in the choir for many decades. Her church community was a source of great meaning to her, and she found true happiness in worship, fellowship, and serving others.
Susan was blessed to share her life with two loving partners. While attending Central Michigan University, she met Douglas Paul, and they soon married, building a life together centered on love and family. They raised two sons and shared many happy years until Douglas’s passing in 2015. Later in life, a long-standing friendship with David Lundquist, whose family had been close to Susan and Douglas since the early 1960s, blossomed into a beautiful second chapter. Susan and David were married in December 2016 and enjoyed a deeply loving marriage until David’s death in May 2024. Susan’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Brian Paul and Johanna Nilsson, and Mark Paul and Sharon Turner; and by her five beloved grandchildren, Noah and Sophia Nilsson-Paul, and Isabel (Johnny) Penella, Matilda, and Phoebe Paul. She is also survived by her brother Richard (Carol) Morse and her stepchildren Anne Lundquist; Tom (Diana) Lundquist; and Sarah (David) Leskovec and their children.Funeral arrangements have been made by Joldersma and Klein Funeral Home of Kalamazoo. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. Friends and family may share a condolence message online
