Thank you for using the online pledge card to make your commitment in support of the 2027 general operating budget of First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. Your generosity helps build the spiritual home we share. This year, our theme Our Hearts Our Home invites us to reflect on the grace God pours into our lives and the gratitude we offer in return. Hebrews reminds us that mutual love, hospitality, doing good, and sharing what we have are the very practices that make a community feel like home. When you give, you help create a place where strangers are welcomed, hope is nurtured, and God’s love becomes visible. Thank you for being part of this sacred work. —The Stewardship Team
Non Cash Gift Ideas for Supporting First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo
Our Hearts Our Home — A Spirit of Generosity
Sometimes the timing of a cash gift isn’t possible, and sometimes God nudges us toward forms of generosity that look a little different. Many people discover that non‑cash gifts can be a meaningful, faithful, and even more beneficial way to support the ministry of First Church. If you feel led to explore other ways of giving, here are several options that may align with your circumstances and your heart.
Appreciated Stock
There are seasons when selling appreciated stock would create a significant tax burden. By gifting the stock directly to First Church, you can offer a generous gift while avoiding capital gains tax. It is a way of turning long‑held blessings into ministry that continues to grow.
Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA)
You may transfer funds from your IRA directly to First Church and avoid paying tax on those distributions. If you are age 70½ or older and required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), you may give up to $100,000 of that distribution to the church without tax. Many find this to be a deeply meaningful way to support the ministries that have shaped their faith.
Life Insurance
As life changes, the reasons we once purchased life insurance may no longer apply. If you have a paid‑up policy that has fulfilled its original purpose, you may name First Church as the beneficiary. This simple act becomes a legacy of love that continues long after your lifetime.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A charitable gift annuity funded with cash or appreciated stock allows you to make a gift to First Church while receiving income for life. You receive an immediate tax deduction, steady income, and the joy of knowing that the remainder will support the church’s ministry when you are no longer here. This can be especially helpful for those who hold appreciated stock they prefer not to sell.
Leaving a Bequest
Many people find they can make their most significant gift through a bequest. You may choose to leave a percentage of your remaining assets to First Church, ensuring that your faith continues to bless future generations. Assets that would be heavily taxed if left to heirs such as IRAs can become a full and untaxed gift to the church’s ministry.
Just to Note
These ideas are offered as possibilities, not as tax advice. We encourage you to speak with your tax advisor or attorney to discern what is best for your situation.
If you would like guidance or simply a conversation about any of these giving options, please reach out to Lead Pastor Rev. Julie Kline or the church office at 269‑381‑6340. We would be honored to walk with you.
