The theme Creating for the Common Good remembers that the God who created the heavens and the earth is still creating\, renewing\, and inspiring life among us. As followers of Jesus\, we are invited to notice the gifts God has placed in our hands: our skills\, ideas\, resources\, imagination\, and compassion. We are called to offer these gifts in service to our neighbors. Grounded in God’s grace and our Wesleyan call to love in action\, we come to worship with holy curiosity. This holy curiosity invites us to use our individual and community creativity to help build a more vibrant community concerned for the well-being of all.

SUMMARY:August 2 Worship Service - Communion Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Jacob wrestles an angel. Or was it God? Does it matter? There was an encounter with God in the midst of deep struggle and Jacob walked away with a new name\, and a limp. The limp was proof there had been a wrestling match and he came out of it broken\, yet alive. Such are our encounters with God. We walk away with a new name\, sometimes quite literally but sometimes figuratively speaking. There is newness. We have been changed. We are different. We walk away alive yet broken. The good news is God comes to us. God always comes to us and leaves us transformed. \nWe will have special visitors from Holy Land Christian Solidarity Cooperative.

SUMMARY:August 9th Sunday Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Join us for worship on Sunday\, August 9\, as we listen for the Divine call of inclusion and respond with our ordinary lives and the gift of grace. Through Romans 10:5–15 and Psalm 85\, we will reflect on the good news that God’s grace is near\, generous\, and meant for all people. This theme invites us to consider what it means not only to welcome others in word\, but to become a community where peace\, mercy\, belonging\, and justice are practiced with intention. As we pray\, sing\, listen\, and respond\, we will ask how God is calling us to carry that inclusive love beyond the walls of worship and into our everyday relationships. Our special offering will support the Pastors’ Discretionary Fund\, which has helped people in our community with diverse and sometimes unexpected needs for decades\, made possible by generous gifts from those who want our church to be compassionately engaged with our neighbors. All are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Where is God in all of this? This is the question we wrestle with as the saga of Genesis comes to an end. Joseph is reconciled with his brothers and with his father after years apart. The brothers had done a horrible thing\, selling Joseph into slavery\, never knowing if he was dead or alive. And when they were reunited Joseph had become one of incredible power – the power to kill them\, or to enslave them\, and yet Joseph forgave them and welcomed them. Rather than death\, Joseph saw life. God was working through him and his family for a purpose larger than they could imagine\, forcing life and newness through their actions. We cannot always see the bigger picture\, but underneath it all is God’s mercy and justice moving all things towards life and wholeness.

SUMMARY:Sunday\, August 23 Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:Last week in worship we heard the ending of Joseph’s story. Through all the struggles and deathly experiences of Joseph’s life\, God had been with him – and in the end there was redemption and reconciliation. The Egyptian king\, the Pharaoh\, even respected and honored Joseph’s God. Now many years later a new king has risen who has no memory of Joseph’s God and Joseph’s descendants\, the Hebrew people who have become numerous in Egypt. The pharoah – forgetful of God\, and fearful of the “foreigners\,” forces them into slavery. When powerful political leaders become forgetful of God and fearful of people they create oppressive structures. And God raises up courageous leaders to bring about God’s liberation. In Exodus\, God raises up Moses; but first\, God empowers two Egyptian midwives who refuse to follow the king’s rule\, making way for God’s liberation. Here is the good news\, as with the midwives and with Moses\, God empowers us in the face of harm to bring God’s liberation.
