Last week we took a front row seat in the synagogue as Jesus unrolled the scroll from the Prophet Isaiah and all listened in wonder as he proclaimed that he was the one come to release captives, give sight to the blind, and free the oppressed. This week, we see those same worshipers as their wonder gives way to anger. They are angered so much by what Jesus said next they try to throw him off a cliff. We are all called to speak in the name of Jesus. Sometimes our words draw wonder, sometimes are words draw anger. The prophet Jeremiah assures us when God gives us a word to speak God will be with us. The grace of God in the bread and cup of communion we share this week is the assurance of the God who gives us voice and goes with us.
