Martha's Table

Martha’s Table is a Sunday afternoon ecumenical ministry for God's children in Kalamazoo who have no physical or spiritual home. At 4:00 pm each Sunday afternoon, several churches from the Kalamazoo community partner on a rotating basis bringing homeless guests a chance to experience Christian fellowship through worship and a meal—hosted at the First Congregational Church UCC, 129 South Park Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan.

In the gospel of Luke, Jesus reminded his worried and anxious hostess, Martha, to be present to her guests and not consumed by her "to-do" list. In short, Jesus urged Martha to put relationship first. Therefore, the purpose of Martha's Table is to provide an intimate environment for church communities and homeless people to build nurturing, long term, mutually transforming relationships with one another. Although a meal is provided at Martha's Table, it is important to understand that Martha's Table is not a "meal program.” Each Sunday, Martha's Table guests are welcomed warmly and treated with dignity and respect to experience Christian fellowship.

Each Sunday, every church that participates in Martha’s Table sends at least two volunteers to be in fellowship and “break bread” with guests of Martha’s Table. If you are interested in volunteering for a couple hours on a Sunday afternoon, enjoying worship, a meal and fellowship, please contact Susan Eden at 375-9880.

Once every two months, our church brings worship and a meal to Martha’s Table. Rev. Julie Kline is our worship leader. Donna Dunyak is the coordinator of volunteers to make and serve the food. The food is prepared the Saturday before the meal at FUMC. If you would like to help participate in food prep or serving on Sunday, please contact Donna at 344-0056.
